Picking the best tonneau cover for your pickup truck is no easy task. While all types of tonneau covers allow for full bed access and added security, the different types of truck bed covers offer varying levels of weather resistance, ease of use, and cargo protection. One-piece tonneau covers keep a low profile and can generally offer the highest level of added security. They are typically constructed of hard, heavy-duty materials like fiberglass or aluminum panels to provide maximum security, durability, and weather protection. These are sometimes referred to as “hinged tonneau covers,” opening from a hinge at the truck's bulkhead with a locking mechanism at the tailgate.   

Folding tonneau covers can offer a higher level of functionality and versatility while providing a high level of security and weather resistance. Tri-fold tonneau covers are the most common; these types of tonneau covers let you quickly and easily fold back the cover to uncover a section of the bed at a time. Similar to roll-up tonneau covers, retractable tonneau covers can quickly cover or uncover the bed, but are stored in a canister near the cab that houses it.
